Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ECSWT)

Shockwave therapy is a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment. The treatment involves the targeted delivery of high frequency pulses of energy to damaged structures. In addition to increasing localised blood flow to and cellular regeneration within the affected structure, ECSWT also has a direct analgesic effect. As such, the treatment can not only assist your horses healing but also provide pain relief in the short term.

Whilst we have used ECSWT with great success for the treatment of proximal suspensory desmitis in a large number of cases, this is far from its only application. We have successfully used this therapy to treat splints, tendon problems and joint pain. Our machine is also capable of effectively treating a range of back problems, including pain associated with kissing spines. The machine is portable and therefore treatment can be performed either at our clinic or at your yard.
